👟 Runner guide

Before your coach or support crew can track you in Track Your Team, you must enable GPS position sharing on your watch. The procedure depends on your brand.

⚠️ Essential prerequisite: run with your phone

Track Your Team only works if you run with your smartphone (in your pocket, armband, belt, backpack…). Your Garmin or COROS watch sends positions to the phone via Bluetooth, and the phone forwards the data to Garmin/COROS servers via 4G/5G/Wi-Fi. Without a phone connected to the internet during the activity, real-time sharing is impossible (except for watch models with built-in eSIM LTE).

With a Garmin watch (LiveTrack)

LiveTrack is built into most compatible Garmin watches (Forerunner, Fenix, Edge, Epix, Venu, etc.) via the Garmin Connect app.

Initial setup (one-time)

On your smartphone:

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app
  2. Go to "More" → "Safety & Tracking" → "LiveTrack"
  3. Tap "Sharing Settings"
  4. Check "Email"
  5. Tap "Recipients", then "Add Recipients" and enter the email addresses of those who will automatically receive the link

💡 Tip: if an "Auto Start" option is available in the same menu, enable it so LiveTrack starts with every activity (depending on your Garmin Connect version).

For each activity

Start your activity on your watch as usual. If auto-start is enabled, an email containing the share link is sent immediately to your configured recipients.

The link looks like: https://livetrack.garmin.com/session/.../token/...

Forward the link to your coach

If your coach is in the recipient list, they already get it by email. They will paste it into Track Your Team.

With a COROS watch — three ways to share

The COROS app can share your position in three ways, and Track Your Team accepts all three. The choice depends on what you want to give your followers:

All three can be active at the same time: your coach can follow the live with heart rate, and keep the position share for the Relive.

📱 Requirements (all three)

COROS app up to date, watch close to the phone (Bluetooth active), COROS app running in the background, and phone connected to the internet during the activity.

1. Position share by SMS or email — the simplest

From the COROS app, share your position (the exact menu depends on the app version): COROS prepares a ready-to-send message — "[Name] is sharing their current location. Link to see their position in real time: https://s.coros.com/…" — which you send by SMS, WhatsApp or email to your coach. They paste it into Track Your Team like any other link.

This link carries your position (not heart rate) and stays available 24 hours after the activity ends: your coach can therefore also launch the Relive and the video after the race, without asking you for anything else.

2. Live Tracking from the map — the richest

Since July 2026, the COROS app offers true live tracking: the link also carries heart rate, watch-measured distance and activity type — your followers see as much data as with a Garmin watch.

Option 1 — Scheduled link, created in advance (ideal for races)

In the COROS app, open the map (Extender) → share icon → Scheduled Tracking. Pick your time window (e.g. Saturday 5am–11pm): the link is generated immediately, before you even start.

The killer feature for a support crew: every runner sends their link the night before, the coach sets up all of Track Your Team at leisure, and on race day each tracker goes live on its own when the runner starts their activity within the scheduled window. Zero fiddling at the start line.

Option 2 — During the activity

Start an outdoor activity on the watch, then in the COROS app, on the map (Extender), tap the share icon to generate and send the link.

Send the link to your coach

The link looks like: https://s.coros.com/... — send it through any channel (SMS, WhatsApp…). Your coach pastes it into Track Your Team, like any other link.

💡 Good to know

The link is valid for 72 hours. With a scheduled link, Track Your Team shows "Waiting" until the start, then switches to live automatically. After the start, the track may take up to ~10 minutes to appear (COROS publication delay): this is normal — watch metrics arrive first, the map follows.

After the finish: live tracking switches off 30 minutes after the activity ends (COROS rule) and the link stops answering. Track Your Team keeps the track received during the live, but to relive the race afterwards (Relive, video), also send your position share (valid 24 hours) or the Safety Alerts link.

3. Safety Alerts — automatic, with SOS

COROS Safety Alerts are available on compatible models via the COROS app. When you start an outdoor activity, an email with a live tracking link is automatically sent to your emergency contacts.

📱 Operating conditions

Your phone and watch must remain close together (Bluetooth active), with the COROS app running in the background. Your phone must also be connected to cellular service so contacts can be notified.

Initial setup (one-time)

On your smartphone:

  1. Open the COROS app
  2. Go to the profile page and select "Safety Alerts"
  3. Add at least one emergency contact (from your phone's contacts, or manually)

Added contacts will automatically receive the tracking link via email at each activity, and a text message if you trigger an SOS alert.

For each activity

Start an outdoor activity on your COROS watch. An email with the live tracking link is sent immediately to your emergency contacts.

The link looks like: https://s.coros.com/...

Forward the link to your coach

If your coach is in your emergency contact list, they already receive the link by email. They will paste it into Track Your Team.

🆘 Bonus: SOS alert

COROS Safety Alerts also let you trigger an SOS by holding the dial button or backlight button for 7 seconds. This notifies your contacts via SMS with your GPS position and lat/lon coordinates. Handy in case of a fall or trouble during a race.

⚠️ Important: not an emergency service

COROS Safety Alerts only notify the contacts you have added. They do not contact local emergency services and should not be used as your primary means of getting help.

With Strava Beacon

Strava Beacon is available to Strava subscribers, from the Strava app on iPhone or Apple Watch. When you start an activity, a live tracking link is sent by SMS to your safety contacts.

📱 Requirements

A cellular connection is required during the activity (Apple Watch with eSIM, or your iPhone with you). The SMS with the link is sent automatically when recording starts.

Initial setup (once)

In the Strava app on iPhone: open settings, the Beacon section, and add up to 3 safety contacts. For Apple Watch, then enable Beacon in the Strava Apple Watch app settings (status "Ready").

Each activity

Start recording your activity. An SMS with the link is sent to your safety contacts.

The link looks like: https://www.strava.com/beacon/...

Send the link to your coach

The link is also available in the Beacon settings of the Strava iPhone app once the activity has started: copy it and send it to your coach (SMS, email, WhatsApp…). They'll paste it into Track Your Team.

🔋 Battery life: how far can your phone take you?

Position sharing runs on your phone (the watch feeds it, the phone relays over the internet) — so its battery sets the limit. In practice, screen off in a pocket or pack, sharing lasts about 15 hours of racing — phone in normal mode, no special settings (verified in real races).

Distance Typical duration Phone battery
5 km< 1 h✅ No problem
10 km1 – 2 h✅ No problem
Half marathon (21 km)2 – 4 h✅ No problem
Marathon / trail (42 km)4 – 8 h✅ No problem
50 km6 – 10 h✅ No problem
80 km10 – 15 h✅ No problem — start at 100%
120 km and beyond15 h+🔋 OK with a power bank

Sharing itself uses very little power: the watch talks to the phone over low-energy Bluetooth, and the data uploads are tiny. What really drains the battery is searching for signal in poorly covered areas (deep valleys, dense forests) — worth anticipating on mountain ultras. Very-long-distance tips: start at 100%, keep the screen off, Wi-Fi off (useless mid-race, it just scans for networks in vain), keep the phone warm (cold drains batteries). A small 5,000 mAh power bank is plenty for a 100-miler.
